The oasis of Liwa is located 250 km south-southwest of Abu Dhabi, directly on the edge of the Rub Al Khali - the largest and almost uninhabited sandy desert in the world also called "Empty Quarter".
The border with Saudi Arabia is only a few kilometres away.
Liwa is not completely planted but consists of about 50 individual oases.
At the beginning of the historical records circa the 17th century, the Liwa desert was populated by Bani-Yas Bedouin, from which the ruling families of Abu Dhabi and Dubai emerged.
Here our safari leads us.
Admirable is the beautiful vegetation amid breathtaking red up to 120-meter high dune formations.
