After you have been picked up from your hotel, you will travel to the Sanctuary of Fátima which is sometimes dubbed the religious capital of Portugal. Nearly 100 years ago, 3 children claimed to have seen apparitions of the Virgin Mary and the site gradually became a popular location for Roman Catholic pilgrims from near and far. Explore the Basilica and the Church of the Apparitions which is thought to be the original site where the apparitions occurred.
The tour will then continue to the Batalha Monastery which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was ordered for construction by King John I of Portugal in 1386 to give thanks to the Virgin Mary for victory during the Battle of Aljubarrota. You will also see the Alcobaça Monastery which was built in 1178 for Cistercian monks and was the first building completed in a fully Gothic architectural style. Then you will visit the beautiful city of Nazaré.
Finally, you will visit the charming ancient town of Óbidos which has been inhabited since Roman times. It contains a prominent castle that was conquered from the Moors in 1148 and every July, the locals celebrate the Medieval Market where they dress up in costumes from that period. Then you will travel back towards Lisbon where the tour finishes.
