After you have been picked up from your hotel in Naples, you will travel to the excavation site of Pompeii where the Roman town lay buried in volcanic ash and pumice for over 1,500 years before gradually being excavated by archaeologists. The town was destroyed in 79 AD as a result of the eruption of nearby Mount Vesuvius.
As you arrive in Pompeii, you will be able to explore the remarkably well preserved ruins including the Forum, Thermal Baths and Lupanare. Walk along the Ancient Roman streets and find other highlights including a theater and walk inside some buildings where you will find some splendid mosaics and get a better idea of what life was like 2,000 years ago.
You will then stop for lunch for pizza and a drink before travelling to Torre del Greco where you will then go through the Vesuvius National Park. After the vehicle has been parked, you will walk up to the top of the crater at 1,200 m where you will receive a spectacular view over the surrounding region including the Bay of Naples. By 5 pm, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Naples.
