The Amalfi Coast attracts many visitors each year for its fantastic climate as well as its southern Italian culture richly steeped in history. It has some of the most fantastic natural scenery and its mountainous location is scattered with many charming towns with a laidback lifestyle.
After you have been picked up from your hotel in Naples at 11am, you will travel to Ravello situated above the Amalfi Coast. This is an old settlement founded in the 5th century and in 1996 was granted UNESCO World Heritage Site status. This was a popular destination for many famous notables including Richard Wagner and M.C. Escher who were attracted to its natural beauty and tranquility.
Afterwards, you will visit the town of Amalfi which was once a powerful Maritime Republic over 1,000 years ago. Explore the charming town including the spectacular Byzantine style Cathedral. If you have the opportunity, you can try the famous Limoncello liquer made from lemons and explore further the medieval architecture around the city.
At 1:30pm you will stop for a light lunch in Conca dei Marini before then travelling to Positano which traditionally was a fishing village and made famous by the author John Steinbeck. This is also where Mick Jagger and Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones wrote some of the lyrics for their songs. The main highlight is the Church of Santa Maria Assunta which has a 13th century Byzantine icon of the Black Madonna.
By 4pm, you will depart from the Amalfi Coast on the road back to Naples.
