After you have been picked up from your hotel in Lisbon, you will travel east to a more rural and traditional part of Portugal. The Alentejo region has been inhabited for over 8,000 years and you will find remnants of neolithic monoliths scattered across the region.
Along the way, participants will stop to sample the culinary delights of the area which is also famous as a wine growing region. Alentejo is traditionally known as the bread basket of Portugal due to its fertile plains and an economy heavily based on agriculture. Typical produce includes cheese, olive oil, smoked ham, citrus fruit and sausages.
Alentejo is also home to the largest man made lake in Europe - Alqueva. Participants will also visit the village of Alvito which has a castle and a mixture of Manueline and Moorish style architecture. After the tour, participants will be transferred back to their hotel.
